My goal as a Special Ed Advocate is “ To ensure that all children with disabilities have available to them a Free Appropriate Public Education that emphasizes special education and related services designed to meet their unique needs and prepares them for further education,  employment, and independent living 20 U.S.C. 1400 (d).”

My services include:

  • Assisting and guiding  parents or any legal guardian to understand the special education process
  • Guiding parents carefully read their child’s school records, assessments, and information from other professionals
  • Assisting with organizing documents and  materials and write letters to the School and/or Department of Education
  • Assisting in  preparing for an IEP meeting and understanding  which assessments to request; Assisting in writing SMART IEP GOALS
  • Assist parents to understand the process and importance of Functional Behavioral Assessment(FBA), when it is required and writing the Behavior Intervention Plan(BIP) GOALS
  • Attending  IEP team meetings and helping  present the parent’s concerns and agenda;
  • providing information about Special Education options and requirements and helping parents to seek specific services or programs for their child;
  • teaching parent’s how to become a more effective advocate for their child;
  • knowing local schools resources and capable of seeing solutions not immediately obvious to other people;
  • Assisting in  mediation & resolving disputes between parents and school in a respectful manner
  • Suspensions and Expulsions
